Guidelines for Safeguarding the Eyes
- Lower your gaze whenever a woman (non-mahram) passes by. Train yourself to resist the inner urge to look, no matter how strong it feels.
- If your gaze slips unintentionally, immediately lower it again, even if it feels difficult or overwhelming.
- When you misuse your eyes, make it a habit to:
- Pray at least four Rak’ats of Nafl (voluntary) Salah
- Give charity according to your capacity
- Engage in frequent Istighfar
- Understand the consequences:
A stray gaze leads to attraction → affection → passionate love, which can destroy both this world and the Hereafter. - Misusing the eyes gradually kills the heart, weakening your enthusiasm for worship, Dhikr, and spiritual practices — eventually leading a person away from devotion.
